Welcome and thank you for participating in the New York Bee Wellness Workshop program-
The goal is to reach as many beekeepers as possible and show them how to diagnose, treat and prevent honey bee diseases.
I congratulate you on your willingness and motivation to help achieve this goal!

* A New York State beekeeper   survey by the Finger Lakes Bee Club, is for non-migratory beekeepers, similar but shows the results, immediately. Please pass the survey info along to other beekeepers. If you are shy about using your real zip code (mapped out), please use a nearby zip code. This survey is open until  May 15, 2013.

SPRING Management:
Spring Colony Management (Ontario Beekeekers pdf)
Spring Check List- Potential reasons for colony loss

****Your bees have varroa mites!, they are the primary threat to honey bees,
it  is your responsibility to check how many your bees have, to assess colony health. It is easy and simple to do, but very important even if you do not treat.

Please check the Site Map or use the Search Buttons on specific pages to locate pages/subjects, and use the Overview page as a guide.

Several sources are predominant:
* Chapters 13 & 14 from The Beekeepers Handbook 4th Edition (Sammataro & Avitabile)-NOTE-this is not on the web page; also a power point from Diana Sammataro about mites

* "A Field Guide to Honey Bees and Their Maladies" (Penn State)

* Fact sheets from the Ontario Tech Transfer Program

* eXtension Bee Health Community Page, which is a trove of up to date information on bee health issues.

NOTE: Please be sure to reduce the PDFs to 100% or less. If you have trouble opening the links, you may need a new version of Adobe Reader, available at http://get.adobe.com/reader.

Please familiarize yourself with the material; take notes and copies as needed for preparation for any workshops you may attend, or for general use for your practical beekeeping skills. There are several self graded quizzes as aids for preparation.

This website is a work in progress and will be updated periodically. Please send any suggestions and questions to Pat@eshpa.org.
